The era has become more sophisticated and will be more sophisticated in the future. There must be some people who are still clumsy and not used to the sophistication that already exists. But as everything evolves, so does fashion. British luxury brand Mulberry is introducing digital ID to its products in a push to increase circularity and traceability. Stunning and very sophisticated isn’t it?

The innovation

The iconic handbag maker has committed to adding ID to its full lineup by 2025. However, starting this June with used bags from its resale program, Mulberry Exchange.

The company has joined the Sustainable Markets Initiative Mode Task Force. And has teamed up with cloud-based software platform EON on a new initiative.

The bag

Each of the Mulberry bag will be connected to a digital ID supported by EON. Consumers can then attach their smartphone to an NFC-enabled tag. It can access product and origin information about the bag, as well as facilitate circular services such as authentication, repair, and resale.

A leather handbag demo equipped with a digital ID was showcased at the Global Fashion Summit in Copenhagen on June 8 by Mulberry CEO Thierry Andretta and EON founder and CEO Natasha Franck.

Andretta said in a statement:

“We take great pride in creating objects that are made to last, to be loved and passed on to the next generation.”

“Through Digital ID, Mulberry can offer customers increased transparency into the unique journey of our products, providing services such as lifetime repair, repurchase and resale, and ensuring that each bag can have multiple lifetimes.”
